Bringing A Historic Barn Back To Life

The Bistro at Gervasi is an upscale rustic Italian restaurant housed in a 200-year-old barn that once served a Canton dairy farm. Ted Swaldo and his family, the visionaries behind Gervasi, recognized the potential within the dilapidated structure on their property. Sugarcreek Builders helped breathe new life into the historic barn, replacing the entire foundation. While others might have deemed the barn unusable, the Swaldo family saw it as the cornerstone of their dream. It stands today as a testament to the power of that vision.

A Grand Welcome

The collaboration between Gervasi Vineyard and Sugarcreek Builders extended to The Twisted Olive, a contemporary restaurant set in a beautiful park setting. Sugarcreek Builders crafted a grand, heavy-timber entrance, featuring a striking king truss design. The entrance pays homage to an old-world Italian aesthetic while inviting guests into a modern and vibrant dining experience.

Elevating Luxury Accommodations

Gervasi’s Villas are synonymous with luxury and elegance. Each villa is comprised of four luxurious suites with features like cozy fireplaces and heated travertine floors. However, one of the most striking features are the heavy timber beams and trusses we created to help bring the Tuscan-inspired decor to life.

The Transformation

The barn underwent a remarkable renovation while preserving the integrity of the original timber frame structure. The hand-hewn marks and pegged joinery, showcasing the craftsmanship of a bygone era, were retained and celebrated throughout the interior. This not only preserved history but also added a unique charm to the space.
